Why is Lucca Leadership called Lucca Leadership?

When the charity was being set up in 2001, the concept was of a leadership renaissance. It seemed fitting that we should base ourselves at the heart of the Italian renaissance in Tuscany. A fittingly inspiring Villa was found near Lucca and Lucca Leadership was born.  For more on our history, click here.

I’m above the 30 year age limit. How can I help?

If you still wish to apply for the courses but are over the 30 year age limit contact your nearest affiliate.
The other opportunity for people over 30 is in offering valuable mentoring support. After attending the Mentor Training programme, mentors offer our leadership programme graduates the valuable support they need to bring alive their community projects.

What are the requirements of a mentor?

The requirement of mentors is generally to attend a mentor training weekend and then to have a conversation with your mentee(s) roughly once a month. This frequency can be altered with the agreement of both parties but this is what we would encourage. There is no stipulated length of time that the conversations should last, but it should last long enough for the mentor to have a thorough discussion with the mentee as to how they are and how their project is progressing. The conversation could hence last anything from 1 hour to an afternoon. The conversations do not have to be face to face as the mentors and mentees may well be located in different countries and thus phone calls are fine and preferable to e-mail. Any other time needed in between conversations would be at the discretion of the mentor and would vary according to any action points that might arise out of the conversation (if there are any). We generally allocate 1-2 mentees per mentor. Each mentoring process is expected to last for one year, but again this could last longer if both sides wanted it to. Hence this will be at your discretion.

What support and guidance does a Lucca Leadership mentor receive?

The guidance a mentor receives starts with the weekend mentor training. We also provide the mentor with a study pack along which contains useful articles and a small manual. Throughout the year, the mentor will also be contacted by various members of the Lucca Leadership team to ensure that all parties are happy, and to answer any queries. The mentor will of course be encouraged to contact the Lucca Leadership mentoring team with any queries he or she has at any stage.

Is there a contract between Lucca Leadership and a mentor?

There is a very simple contract to ensure that both the mentee and mentor are protected. There is a template contract that we offer which is then amended by the mentor and mentees as they wish. This template outlines the basic things that need to be agreed on such as frequency of contact, method of contact, ground rules such as confidentiality etc, best time for communication, next point of communication, proposed length of contract and any other commitments.

Who runs the programmes?

Our programmes are run by volunteers who work with Lucca Leadership all over the world. The training is conducted by transformational leadership experts with extensive experience in training community leaders. We also invite highly acclaimed visiting lecturers to help with specific case studies.
The courses will have an international feel to them enhanced by the richness and diversity of the participants and the volunteers. To find out more about the teams behind the programmes in your location please click here.

What is the framework of the leadership training?

The Leadership Foundations Programme is based around four types of activity; tuition, practical experience, reflection and dialogue. This structure is designed to give you the maximum opportunity to understand the programme material from your own experience, and to come to a firm understanding of how you can lead transformation in your own community and society. This will involve reflecting on your own particular project and its relation to the needs you see around you. For more information on this topic, please see the Leadership Foundations Programme details.

How much does it cost for a place on the Leadership Foundations programme?

The course costs STG£395 (approx €585) which covers all accommodation, food, excursions and transport in Italy, but excludes flights. Lucca Leadership has contributed to the total cost, bringing it down to this price, which is less than cost. Participants are invited to contribute to the full cost if they are able.

If you are finding it difficult to pay the fee, Lucca Leadership does provide bursaries, with priority given to those from developing countries. Bursaries may be applied for on the application form, see How to Apply for more details.

How can I get a bursary to help with the cost of the programme?

There are bursaries available for help with the cost of the Programme and/or with travel costs for those with financial difficulties (with priority given to those from developing countries). Bursaries may be applied for on the application form, see How to Apply for more details.

Where do the programmes take place?

The European Leadership Foundations Programmes and all Living Leadership programmes will be held at the Villa Boccella, just outside the town of Lucca in Northern Italy. The villa is conveniently located in the heart of Tuscany, birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, not far from the historic towns of Siena and Florence.
The Australian Leadership Foundations Programmes will be held in Australia.  Please see the events calendar for more information on programmes taking place near you.
