The Need for Leadership

There is a great need for leadership in the world today. The emerging generation of leaders have complex and challenging issues to address, which require deeper insights and strong leadership in order to bring about transformation. Lucca Leadership was established to fulfill the growing need for training, development and support for young people. These young people are inspired with positive energy and idealism and are looking for help and support to focus this idealism and bring about real positive change.

The Needs in the World

If we were to draw up a list of the things in the world that need to be transformed, a short list might look something like this.

• At least 80% of Humanity lives on less than $10 a day
• Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names
• Some 1.1 billion people in developing countries do not have access to water
• 21% of elderly people in the UK live in poverty 
• One-third of children in Northern Ireland live in poverty
• One in ten UK young people say that life is not worth living, according to new research from The Prince's Trust
• One quarter of young Australians (12-20yrs) have witnessed domestic violence (2004)

Our vision is that the next generation of leaders will have the skills and confidence necessary to take on the most pressing issues in their communities, bringing about real transformation. We provide young people with a skills base that enables them to respond confidently to the many challenges facing our society, and to lead transformation for the good of all. The reality of the world we live in is that there are many many needs and issues that are simply not going away. Lucca Leadership was establish to help inspire and develop young people so that they could take on the challenges in the world through service and great leadership.

The Need for Leadership

The importance of leadership in the world today might be summarised that although the problems of the world have many causes, all of the solutions will rely on great leadership to some degree for their success. This means that we can work to address the needs we see around us by developing our ability to lead the process of transformation. This resolution to be of service is an essential foundation for leadership, and is the basis on which to build the necessary knowledge and skills. Leadership is not only about those who are in command of large groups of people. In fact, leadership is about how one works across the different levels of human experience.

Transformation takes place when there is a significant shift at these causal levels, leading to a change in the outcomes that people experience. To bring about such a shift, leaders need to use their awareness, to allow others and themselves to see what is taking place at the causal levels, and to change it.

Once it is clear what needs to be changed, the leader then needs to be aware of what action is needed to deliver it. The leader needs to formulate the change and then project or communicate it. This is done primarily through speech, and the example of the leaders’ own life.

After attending our programs, the participants are able to inspire those around them to serve, as leaders or in any other capacity. Through this, the participants will be able to meet the needs of the community and society in which they live through service as transformational leaders, and help to bring about change that uplifts those it touches. A clear aim of Lucca Leadership is that participants take action as a result of the programme which will enable them to support the welfare of their society or community. The benefit to humanity arising from the work carried out by participants now and in the future, rather than just the delivery of the programmes, is a key measure of success.
